Christina was born in Germany on June 13, 1573 to Hans von Aachen. She never knew her mother. Her father, a mannerist painter at the time, was always painting, so she learned quickly about art. It became a hobby for Christina to try and paint like her father, and even try other forms of art. After a few years, she became rather good at it, and she even got to help her father. After awhile, she found her own signature to her paintings instead of signing her name. She found it more beautiful if one of the people in her paintings had a tear of blood running down their cheeks. So she never signed her name again.

On her 17th birthday, there was a ball that was to be held at her a castle not too far away, and every noble in the country was invited. It was to welcome the arrival of some mysterious rich man that had come into town to do business, and her father had been invited to present a painting. The ball was wonderful, full of everything that Christina could imagine. The mysterious man was never introduced, though, and Christina became curious of who it was. Looking around the room from the table that her and her family was supposed to sit at, she looked for anyone who looked out of place. She didn’t find anyone that looked out of place, so Christina’s curiosity got the best of her, and she decided to walk around to look for him.

After walking around the ballroom for quite some time, she saw no one. Walking out into the night and the courtyard, she saw a tall, thin man leaning over a banister. That must have been him, because she had never seen a man as beautiful as he. He only looked a few years older than Christina herself, and she wanted to introducer herself, but he seemed to know that she was behind him. “Christina, the one and only daughter of Hans von Aachen, one of the most respected men in all of Germany.” He said loud enough for her to hear, without turning around. Christina could only see the back of his head and his clothes. His hair was long, black, and in a tight pony tail, and his black cloak covered his back all the way down to his boots. Without her saying a word, he turned around. He was beautiful. His smooth, pale skin and piercing amber eyes caught her stare, and she couldn’t help but gawk, even though it was quite rude of her.

The man bowed as he introduced himself. “I am Vladimir Lucianus, the special guest.” He grabbed her hand and placed a soft kiss on it. “It’s an honor to meet the famous painter’s beautiful daughter.” Christina blushed. She was always told that she was beautiful, but being told by a man with looks such as his was breathtaking. “Thank you, sir, but it is an honor to meet you.” Suddenly a minuet began to play from inside, and the man asked her to dance. She abruptly accepted, and they walked into the ballroom joining in the dancing. He was an amazing dancer. He seemed to glide across the floor instead of actually stepping, and they ended up dancing all night while continuing to get to know each other. When it was time for the ball to end, Christina didn’t want to say goodbye to him. “Tomorrow night at midnight, meet me at your window.” He said as he walked away for the night.

Her father was pleased to see her talking to Vladimir Lucianus. He told her that a man like him would get her far in life, and she would never have to worry about anything. Christina went off to bed that night, happy, and thinking about her wonderful night. Before she fell asleep, Christina sketched a portrait of the beautiful man with the piercing amber eyes.

The next day, her father attempted to make plans with Vladimir to come and spend the day with them, but he never came. Christina began to wonder if he was serious about coming that night or not, but at midnight, the sound of a horse clambering up to the ground at her window echoed through the night. Looking out of it, there he was, looking much the same as he had the night before, except wearing different clothes. They talked for hours until he was forced to go, and she watched him ride off until she could no longer hear the horse’s gallop nor see him.

They continued their meetings every night, her father never finding out about them. Every night she fell deeper and deeper in love with Vlad, as he told her to call him, and grew more and more annoyed with her sheltered life suck in one place. Vlad had traveled all over Europe, according to him, and he often finished off his stories with “I’ll take you there one day.” Finally, about a week before her 18th birthday, Christina and Vlad made a plan. The night of her birthday, she would sneak out and run away with him to elope. She would live as she pleased and not by the rules of her mother and father.

That night, Christina packed as few things as possible and waited for Vlad to come up to her window. When he arrived, Christina jumped out of her window into his arms, kissed him, and they both mounted the horse and rode off into the night. They rode for hours, and it got to the point where she was so tired, she was about to fall off of the horse.

“Vlad, please, let’s stop. I’m too tired to continue.” She pleaded. Vlad nodded and when they came upon a clearing, they stopped. Vlad started a fire, and joined Christina under a blanket, staring up into the stars. She wondered what her father would think when he didn’t find her in her room in the morning, but she really didn’t care much. She was with Vlad now, and no one would change that.

“I wish this moment could last forever.” She sighed, laying her head on Vlad’s chest and closing her eyes. Suddenly, she felt his body tense up.

“I could make that happen, Christina.” He said darkly, grabbing her arm. He had never used that tone with her before, and it scared her. Every time she had talked to him, his voice had been smooth and soft, not dark.

“What do you mean, Vlad?” She asked, nervously. Maybe he was just tired. Vlad would never act like that around her. He loved her. “No matter how much we wish, forever is too long for us to live. We may be young, but we won’t be alive 100 years from now.”

Suddenly, Vlad sat up and grabbed her. She was so frightened that she couldn’t speak. “You can live forever, Christina. Forever, facing everything that history will throw at you. I will live forever, Christina, and you will too. I can make it so… I am a vampire.” Shock ran over her body like a wave, but it wasn’t a horrible shock. Somewhere deep inside her knew that he was different, but she just never connected the dots. “Then make me like you.” She said, and the last thing she remembered was drinking deeply from a wound on his wrist he inflicted upon himself with a ruby incrusted dagger.



She woke up to find herself on a soft surface. Wherever she was smelled strongly of dust, and she could hear things that she couldn’t possibly hear from where she was. Where was she? It was a room that looked to be a library, full of books that she had never seen. That’s when she remembered the fiasco from what seemed to be the night before. Screaming, she noticed that she was no where near where she last remembered being. She found a door, and upon opening it, Vlad was standing in the hallway, leaning up against a wall.

“What… What happened?” Christina asked, lying there in what she could have sworn was the dark, yet it was lit up like day.

“You are now like me, my love. You are a nightwalker… A vampire. Come, we don’t have much time. So for the next 15 months, Vlad taught her everything that she needed to know, and then left after the first time he tried to kill her. The vampire instinct that he had so often talked about, had finally set in.
